Mets place Steven Matz on the 15-day disabled list, recall Daniel Muno from Las Vegas

On Thursday night, the Mets announced Steven Matz had a partially torn lat muscle on his left side, would be shutdown for three weeks and will be reevaluated at that time.

On Friday, the Mets placed Matz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 6.

Taking Matz’s place on the roster is INF Daniel Muno, who was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas and activated in-time for Friday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

It’s logical for the Mets to bring the extra bat in for the weekend. The Mets will presumably reset their rotation beginning next Friday in St. Louis, so they won’t need a sixth starter until July 22 against the Nationals.

It makes sense to bring in whatever offense they can find at this point and give Terry Collins some more flexibility off the bench.

In 18 games since returning to Triple-A Las Vegas, Muno has hit .333/.407/.403 with a home run and four RBI.
