The Mets have had two standout pitchers over the course of the first half of the season in Jacob deGrom and Jeurys Familia.

deGrom’s 2.30 ERA is sixth best among qualified starters in the National League and his 2.7 wins above replacement (WAR) lead all Mets players by nearly one.

Familia is eighth in the National League with 22 saves and his 1.16 ERA is seventh best among all qualified relievers in the league as well.

Both are deserving of All-Star selections, and Mike Puma of the New York Post says NL manager Bruce Bochy is trying, “real hard” to get both on the National League’s roster.

“When I started to play baseball, one day I wanted to play in the All-Star Game, the World Series, that kind of stuff,” Familia said on Sunday. “If it happens I’m going to enjoy it and live the moment.”

2015 All-Star GameDeGrom, chose not to speak about a possible All-Star election on Sunday, but Familia believes the young starter deserves to be in Cincinnati with the rest of the All-Stars next week.

“Right now he’s one of the best starting pitchers in the major leagues,” Familia said. “Every time he pitches, he throws strikes. He’s got everything for being an All-Star.”

Terry Collins spoke volumes about deGrom’s continued progress and ability to adjust through a difficult period in early May.

“There are some guys that have a feel for it and Jake deGrom has got a feel for it,” Collins said. “Unless your stuff goes backwards if you have a feel for how to use it you’re going to get outs and he does that. He went through a stretch early where he wasn’t pitching like we have seen him in the past and then all of a sudden he fixed it.”

Both deGrom and Familia will learn whether or not they are in fact All-Stars at 7 PM ET on Monday, when the rest of the pitchers are announced.
