Michael Cuddyer is not in the starting lineup against the Dodgers on Friday night, the third consecutive game he has not started.

But Cuddyer did run and take batting practice at Dodger Stadium on Friday afternoon, and while he is not pain free, however, he is available if needed off the bench.

Cuddyer exited Tuesday’s game against the Cubs with discomfort in his left knee. He had a cortisone injection in his knee on Wednesday.

In talking with people close to the team this week, it sounds like this injury is going to be something both Cuddyer and the team have to manage through the rest of the year. This isn’t simply soreness, and it sounds like it’s not a meniscus issue either, but something is going on that doesn’t seem is going to heal in a short period of time.

Terry Collins said on Thursday if this injury lingers into the weekend to the point Cuddyer remains unavailable, the team would have to consider putting him on the disabled list so to not be playing short handed for an extended period of time.
