The Mets will resume their suspended game from the top of the seventh inning with the score tied 1-1 at 1:30 PM.
Carlos Torres was announced into the game as a reliever on Saturday – he will begin the top of the seventh for the Mets.
Here is the Mets current lineup:
Curtis Granderson – RF
Ruben Tejada – 3B
Lucas Duda – 1B
Michael Cuddyer – LF
Wilmer Flores – SS
Juan Lagares – CF
Kevin Plawecki – C
Carlos Torres – RHP
Dilson Herrera – 2B
Sunday’s regularly scheduled game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.
Here are the starting pitchers for game 2:
Steven Matz (MLB debut) will start for the Mets.
Josh Smith (0-0, 12.00 ERA) will start for the Reds.
Here’s what I’m looking for from the Mets today:
A banner day in Mets history.
The last of the pitching gems in the Mets system is graduating to the big leagues this afternoon in Matz, marking the second starting pitcher to make his big league debut for the Mets this season along with Noah Syndergaard. He’s at home, pitching for the team he grew up rooting for in front of a ton of family and friends, so it will probably be a really nervous start for the 24-year-old left-handed pitcher. Still, these days are always great for the organization and the industry – hopefully he can pitch well enough to bring home his first big league win.
The caveat: offense.
The Mets need to figure out a way to push some runs across the board. There are no more words to describe their feeble offense at this point. That means, they’re going to need Lucas Duda, Michael Cuddyer and Juan Lagares to wake up from their June slumbers, starting to day.
Play well enough on defense.
If they’re not going to hit, they just have to play well enough on defense to not leak any runs. The errors, mental mistakes, and lapses are just mind boggling and beyond unacceptable, and they simply cannot afford to make any mistakes right now.
