Mets option Jack Leathersich to Triple-A Las Vegas

Jack Leathersich 1 slice

BaronWith the Mets recalling Steven Matz on Sunday, the Mets were allowed to carry 26 players for today’s doubleheader.

But after their doubleheader sweep of the Reds, the Mets had to reduce their roster back to the standard 25, and decided to drop a left-handed reliever, optioning Jack Leathersich back to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Leathersich wasn’t getting a lot of work and he hadn’t been particularly effective against left-handed hitters, either. It made sense to demote Leathersich anyway since he comes with roster flexibility, whereas neither Alex Torres or Sean Gilmartin can be removed from the 25-man roster without the risk of losing them.

The Mets have one more roster move to make to allow for Daniel Murphy to be activated – the club said that will come on Tuesday.
