Daniel Murphy rakes in second rehab game

Daniel Murphy appears to be almost ready to return from his rehab assignment.

Murphy had a huge game for the St. Lucie Mets at Tradition Field on Friday night, going 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in the Mets 9-3 win over the Bradenton Marauders.

Murphy played eight innings third base for St. Lucie. He is now 4-for-8 in two games during his rehab assignment with St. Lucie.

The Mets had two hits, Murphy had four in Florida tonight. If he’s ready, the Mets have to activate him tomorrow afternoon. They need all the help they can get, and just can’t go with this lack of offense any longer.

Sandy Alderson was noncommittal about activating Murphy tomorrow – he said before Friday’s win the team would make a determination on Murphy’s status either on Friday night or Saturday morning.

If Ruben Tejada needs a day off after being hit by a pitch on Friday, that would mean Eric Campbell is the likely starter at third base on Saturday if they don’t activate Murphy. Campbell is 7-for-his-last-65 at the plate.

  2. Why the lack of urgency now? Giancarlo broke his hand- guess the Mets thought they could get him but
    it’s all over now!
