Mets vs BrewersHere’s what I am looking for from the Mets tonight:

Bueller? Bueller?

It’s time for somebody to show up to class. There’s been a lot of no-shows for the Mets lately–probably why they’re in the midst of a seven-game losing streak.

The veterans on this team need to step up, because at this point they haven’t. Curtis Granderson has showed a bit of a pulse lately, homering three times in his last four games (all solo shots), while Michael Cuddyer continues to scuffle, Lucas Duda looks lost, Juan Lagares–who, compared to the rest of this current roster, is a veteran at this point–just isn’t contributing and Ruben Tejada is basically playing the way he’s played most of his career, which isn’t very good.

While we’ve seen flashes from Wilmer Flores, he’s still a young, raw player, and you can’t realistically count on guys like Dilson Herrera, Kevin Plawecki, Darrell Ceciliani, Eric Campbell and Johnny Monell and expect to win games, let alone compete in them. There are far too many question marks at this point in the season for a team that claimed to have the answers coming into the season.

Jacob deGrom: The one constant.

If there’s one constant on the Mets right now, it’s Jacob deGrom. The guy’s flat out brilliant and not only is he the Mets ace right now–yes, even better than Matt Harvey–he’s one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. He’s got a 2.34 ERA this season (8th lowest in MLB) and in the last calendar year he’s 15-7 with a 2.24 ERA (4th lowest in MLB), ahead of guys like Felix HernandezCorey KluberDavid Price and Jordan Zimermann.

At this point, it’s pretty easy to expect brilliance from deGrom. Whether or not his teammates will offer him any support is a different story.
