Mets vs BrewersHere’s what I am looking for from the Mets tonight:

Wake up and smell the coffee.

The team has managed to blow away a 13-3 record to fall to .500 for the year. They have played terrible, they have looked terrible, and they all sound pretty terrible in their post game scrums. So, it’s time to hit the reset button, regroup, and just start playing better. Eventually, even the level of play they’ve had on display has to improve, even if there are Triple-A players constantly starting.

The Mets need Bartolo Colon to lead by example.

The Mets could really use a strong outing from Colon tonight. It’s been a struggle for him to get on track consistently over the last six or seven weeks, but this is as good a time as any to right the ship and lead the team with a solid performance on the mound. The key, of course, is his two-seamer and commanding each side of the plate with it and cutting down on the number of times he centers that pitch. That’s been his plague in his throw-away starts since the beginning of May, and there have been an alarming number of these during that time.

Aggressive, bold, speedy play.

The Mets have been on their heals, waiting for something to happen and playing not to lose way too much over the last week. Now, they are on the brink of becoming a losing team officially if they lose tonight, as they will fall under .500 for the first time since the close of business on April 12 in Atlanta.

It would be nice for the Mets to play with some aggression, charge some balls they don’t normally charge, take an extra base, go first-to-third, do a little hitting and running, something to change the program up and become less stagnate out there. Not only have they been bad lately, they’ve been boring in the wrong way at that…
