Takeaways from the Mets 4-1 loss to the Brewers…

Mets Brewers Baseball

The Mets lost to the Brewers by the score of 4-1 tonight in Milwaukee, falling under .500 for the year and dropping their 7th straight. Here are my takeaways from Wednesday’s loss…

Rich MacLeodWhat if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.

I feel like I’ve seen this game before. In fact, I believe I’ve seen this game for a week straight, as the Mets have now lost seven consecutive games in very similar fashion. Everything is going wrong, it continues to go wrong, and there are no signs of it getting right.

Zero offense, zero threat of a rally and zero clue on defense. Seriously, I feel like I’m in ‘Groundhog Day.’

No one is hitting–no one. The veterans that are on this team aren’t getting it done, and this team is stacked with minor leaguers filling in for prominent injured players. Eric Campbell is a nice guy, but he’s been absolutely atrocious and it’s completely ludicrous that this team has let this go on for so long.

Something’s gotta give, no?

I mean seriously, what can you say anymore? This team is now under .500 after once winning 11 straight games, having a 13-3 record and an eight-game lead in the National League East. I thought May was bad, but June has been an absolute cluster-you-know-what. At this point I don’t know what the answer is and it’s becoming more and more clear that this team doesn’t, either.

Other notes from Wednesday:

The Mets had only one runner in scoring position all night.

Lucas Duda is 13-for-his-last-75 (.173) with 21 strikeouts.

Wilmer Flores has a .284 OBP in his last 21 games.

Bartolo Colon allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and a walk in six innings pitched, raising his ERA to 4.89 on the season.

The lone bright spot was Curtis Granderson, who went 1-for-3 with a walk and drove in the Mets only run with a solo home run in the 4th. It was Granderson’s 3rd home run in his last four games.

The Mets are 0-7 on their current eight-game road trip, having scored nine runs in those seven games.

For the first time since the first week of the season, the Mets have a sub-500 record.
