Terry Collins will hold a team meeting on Wednesday

These are some very dark times for the Mets. And Terry Collins is not pleased, either.

After the Mets dropped their sixth straight game to 36-36 for the year, Terry Collins said falling to .500 stings a lot after starting the season 13-3.

“Yes, it does [sting].” Terry Collins said.

But the manager hopes to try and right what appears to be a sinking ship with his club on Wednesday, as he will hold a team meeting before their game against the Brewers on Wednesday.

However, he does not intend to call anyone out specifically during the meeting.

“There’s nobody to yell at,” Collins explained. “It’s about going out and getting the job done. If there was a lack of hustle, lack of preparation, there would be something to yell at.”

The perception among outsiders is these meetings are necessary and serve as a magic wand to transform poor play into championship play. But the reality is, it seldom works, especially when the roster isn’t any good, as is the case with the Mets right now.

Having said that, it’s clear the team is tight, playing not to lose, and trying not to make mistakes. The aggressiveness, swagger and confidence all appear to be absent from this team top-to-bottom, the at-bats are lifeless and hollow, and the defense is non-competitive at the moment.

Terry Collins intends to address all of this on Wednesday.

“All I know is, we’re not executing s—,” Collins emphatically explained after the game.

That pretty much sums it up, quite succinctly at that.

  1. Aren’t mental mistakes and poor focus bellwether signs of a lack of preparation? So you’re not gonna yell at Tejada or Neise for not covering? Get outta here with that.
