Last Monday, the Mets designated RHP Dillon Gee.
Sandy Alderson told reporters at the time the Mets would spend the week searching for a trade partner.
The Mets had to do so in seven days, as they had ten days to trade, release or outright Gee to the minor leagues, but needed the final 72 hours of the ten days to pass him trough waivers.
In a report for ESPN New York, the Mets were unable to find a trade partner in the seven day window, so the Mets have placed Gee on waivers with the intention of outrighting him to Triple-A Las Vegas, should he clear.
Alderson said last Monday the club hoped Gee would remain in the organization if they couldn’t find him a new home.
Because Gee has three years of big league service time, he is eligible to refuse an outright assignment to the minors and become a free agent. However, he would be forfeiting the remainder of the $5.3 million owed to him in 2015.
