In another game marred by defensive miscues, the Mets were dealt another injury to their primary catcher. Fortunately the news is not as bad as it originally seemed.
Travis d’Arnaud left Saturday’s game in the sixth inning after being involved in a collision with AJ Pierzynski at home plate in which he hyper-extended his elbow.
Pedro Ciriaco hit a shallow fly ball to left field, but in an attempt by Michael Cuddyer to throw out Pierzynski at the plate, the throw went up the line and Pierzynski collided with d’Arnaud just as he was catching the ball.
D’Arnaud singled in two runs in the first inning and homered in the top of the sixth.
D’Arnaud left Turner Field to undergo x-rays with what the team described as a left elbow injury, and the x-rays came back negative. He is day-to-day.

So D’arnaud gets hurt because Baseball overreacted to Buster Posey getting hurt, now we have our catcher hurt because he can’t block the base path and has to reach to make a tag.
this is why catchers like Johnny Bench and John Stearns were built like linebackers, because they knew they might have to block the plate.
