Kirk Nieuwenhuis is officially a Mets minor leaguer.
The Mets claimed Nieuwenhuis off of waivers from the Los Angeles Angels in Saturday, but immediately waived him with hopes he would clear and he could be sent to the minor leagues.
The club announced on Monday afternoon Nieuwenhuis did in fact clear waivers and was outrighted off the 40-man roster to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Nieuwenhuis is 6-for-60 this season between the Mets and Angels.
