Here is what I am looking for from the Mets tonight:
Battle of the young aces.
Today’s afternoon tilt offers perhaps the best pitching matchup the Mets have found themselves in so far this year, as Jacob deGrom and Shelby Miller face off. After acquiring him from the Cardinals in the Jason Heyward deal, Miller has become the ace of a pretty stingy Atlanta pitching staff, as midway through June his ERA is still under 2.00. All you hear about when it comes to the Mets pitching is Harvey, Harvey, Harvey–but it’s deGrom that has been the Mets best starting pitcher so far in 2015. Pitching matchups such as these, especially when they’re two young pitchers rising to prominence, make for exciting moments. Every scoring opportunity, every play on defense and any and every mistakes made are amplified in games such as these. I’m pretty excited for this one.
Keep ‘Chipper’ Freeman down.
Mr. Met killer himself Freddie Freeman is always a focal point when the Amazin’s take on Atlanta, but so far this year they’ve done a fairly good job against him. Freeman, who seems to deliver a huge hit against this team on a pretty consistent basis, is just 4-for-25 (.160) against the Mets this season with no doubles, one home run, one RBI, four walks and eight strikeouts. This is probably one of the big reasons that this team is 5-2 against the Braves so far this season, and will likely be a key factor in today’s game as well.
