Earlier this week, Sandy Alderson said he expected Daniel Murphy to return from the disabled list when expected on June 20.
So far, he remains on course for next Saturday.
Murphy took six at-bats in an extended spring training game at the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie on Friday, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Murphy did not run the bases during that game, but presumably that will be a forthcoming step as he continues to recover from a mild quadriceps strain.
He will probably take over at third base when he comes off the disabled list. They remain intent on keeping Wilmer Flores at shortstop, and Dilson Herrera doesn’t play another position, and Murphy’s best position is third base, anyway.
It’s as strong of an infield alignment as they can create among those currently on the roster.

One response to “Daniel Murphy continues to progress in extended spring training games”
Thank God I had to attend a 90th Birthday party and only caught the last 3 innings in the car radio on the way home! This was the bitter end when it comes to hysterical experiments at THIRD BASE for us…STOP THE INSANITY. NOW. STOP. Someone be the GROWN UP in the room and insist this squad start behaving like a Major League Team. I love my Mets, been a Fan since 1962, I’ve forgotten more baseball than you’ll ever know—- but this nonsense has got to STOP.
