The Mets bullpen finds itself in transition once again.
Erik Goeddel has been placed on the 15-day disabled list a right elbow strain, with the Mets recalling infielder Danny Muno from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Goeddel has proved to be a major arm out of the bullpen this year, posting a very unexpected 1.96 ERA in 23 innings pitched over 22 appearances. Goeddel has recently developed a splitter which has transformed his pitching arsenal and has been a major key to his success, which has been vital for this team’s bullpen. He wasn’t viewed as an important piece entering the season, but with the way he’s performed this year, it’s a blow to this team. Hopefully this is a short-term situation for Goeddel.
On the other side of it, the Mets will get back a back-up infielder in Muno. This is important to this team, as they’ve been playing with no back-up infielders the past few days and could also use Muno’s bat off of their already short bench.
