It’s been 51 days since Travis d’Arnaud was hit by a pitch which resulted in a metacarpal fracture in his right pinky, and he will make his return to the Mets lineup on Wednesday night against the Giants.

Travis d’Arnaud has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and is batting sixth in Wednesday’s lineup for the Mets.

D’Arnaud was expecting to stay in Las Vegas to catch Steven Matz tomorrow, but was ordered by the team to fly back to New York as he was leaving Cashman Field yesterday afternoon.

Terry Collins said on Wednesday afternoon Kevin lawecki’s illness was the reason d’Arnaud was activated today instead of later this week, although he remains on the active roster for the time being.

D’Arnaud does not yet know how much he will play initially, but expects to speak with Terry Collins about the plan shortly.

To make room for d’Arnaud on the active roster; the Mets optioned Daniel Muno to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Presumably, Plawecki will be either optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas, or placed on the Major League disabled list when Dilson Herrera returns, which should be in a couple of days.

But for now, the Mets are operating with three catchers on the roster, although Plawecki’s availability is questionable which means the Mets could be playing with a three-man bench tonight.

In d’Arnaud’s 51-day absence, Mets catchers hit just .183.
