Here is tonight’s starting lineup for New York:

Here is tonight’s pitching matchup:
Noah Syndergaard (2-3, 3.77 ERA) will start for the Mets.
Syndergaard is making his first career start against the Giants.
Chris Heston (5-4, 4.29 ERA) will start for the Giants.
Heston is making his first career start against the Mets.
Here are some things I’m looking for tonight:
Bounce back, Thor.
Things didn’t exactly go well for the Mets rookie starter Noah Syndergaard the last time he stepped on a mound. In his previous start in San Diego, Syndergaard had one of the odder games you’ll ever see: Pitching four innings, allowing seven runs and striking out 10 batters. Syndergaard became the 2nd starting pitcher in the modern era to allow at least 10 hits, strikeout at least 10 batters and not get out of the 5th inning–one day after Padres starter Andrew Cashner became the first to ever do it.
Syndergaard’s last start was the worst of his very young major league career, and the first we’ve really seen him struggle so much in. I’ll be interested to see how the 22-year-old rookie comes back tonight against a tough, experienced team.
Soup’s on?
It’s been a rough season for Mets utility man Eric Campbell, who’s batting average currently sits at .200 on the season. However, once again called upon out of need over the weekend in Arizona, Campbell came through, going 5-for-12 with a home run, three RBI and a pair of stolen bases, all while snapping his 0-for-28 skid in the process.
As the Mets wait for Daniel Murphy and David Wright to return from injury, or make a potential trade, Campbell will once again be relied upon as things currently stand. Let’s see if his production over the weekend can carry into this series.
Stay in first.
The top two spots in the National League East have been a back-and-forth tango over the last week, but as the Nationals continue to struggle, it would sure be nice to see the Mets try and build a potential multiple-game lead on them in the standings, injuries and all.
