Just when the Mets didn’t need any more shortages on the roster, the Mets took another hit on Friday afternoon.
Kevin Plawecki was sent to a doctor on Friday to be examined for possible vertigo-like symptoms.
Plawecki was diagnosed with a virus causing head congestion, and is listed as day-to-day.
Plawecki was not with the club before Friday night’s game at Chase Field – he was visiting with a doctor for treatment.
Plawecki has experienced similar symptoms in the past, most recently earlier this season while with Triple-A Las Vegas.
Terry Collins did not offer a timeline for Plawecki to return, but they are playing with only one true catcher on Friday against the Diamondbacks.
Eric Campbell worked as a catcher during Spring Training on the back fields at Tradition Field, but didn’t catch in any games and has never caught a game as a professional. He would conceivably be the emergency catcher tonight.
Collins also said Muno is a possibility to catch in the event of an emergency.
