The Mets are putting a contingency plan in place in the event they place Daniel Murphy on the disabled list this afternoon.
Both Daniel Muno and Wilfredo Tovar are en route to Phoenix and will meet the team at Chase Field ahead of Friday night’s game against the Diamondbacks, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Muno can only be officially recalled if Murphy goes on the disabled list – he was optioned back to the minor leagues earlier this week and can only be recalled as an injury replacement. But he could at least be an option at third base while having an ability to play second if needed.
Meanwhile, Tovar – who is on the 40-man roster already – is primarily a shortstop although he can play second base. He has never played third base, however, and that is the primary problem at hand for the Mets at the moment. But they could choose to activate Tovar, move Ruben Tejada back to third base, and either leave Wilmer Flores at shortstop or shift him to second base to accomodate Tovar.
The Mets could choose to activate both and option Eric Campbell back to Las Vegas as well. Campbell isn’t hitting a lick, although he did put some good swings on the ball as Murphy’s replacement in Arizona last night.
However, neither Muno or Tovar are real options to play everyday.
On Thursday night, Terry Collins said Matt Reynolds would be considered to replace Murphy on the roster should Murphy go on the disabled list.
He has underwhelmed at the plate for the better part of a month, but Reynolds has perked up recently for Las Vegas. They could conceivably call him up to play second base and shift Tejada back to third.
However, he is not on the 40-man roster, and with Dilson Herrera possibly coming back in a week or so, they don’t want to make a major roster transaction only to likely use an option on him in the near-term.

Good post. I learn something totally new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon everyday.
It will always be useful to read through content from other writers
and practice a little something from their web sites.
