Mets might skip Dillon Gee’s next start

With an off-day coming on Monday, the Mets could consider reverting back to a five-man rotation temporarily.

After Wednesday night’s 7-3 loss to the Padres, Terry Collins said they’re considering skipping Dillon Gee‘s next start against the Giants next week at Citi Field.

Collins would not commit to skipping Gee’s start, but said he will discuss a strategy with Dan Warthen and come up with an answer soon.

Skipping Gee would allow Matt Harvey to pitch on five days of rest as opposed to having to wait a full week in between starts.

It’s just the latest instance of the team messing with Gee, as he continues to be the odd man out of their equation. And, if they’re going to skip a starter each time there is an off-day, it’s hard to understand the entire purpose of this endeavor.

Whether pulling him from the rotation is warranted or not is another discussion, but there is no way they’re going to be able to get what they need out of Gee if they keep starting and stopping him, keep him out of a set routine, and don’t give him any kind of certainty for what his job and role is on the team.

If he is the odd man out – which it’s painfully obvious he is –  the Mets ultimately might be able to get more out of Gee if they can find him a new home.

It’s sad because Gee has been a pro and a trooper throughout the entire process this season, he’s a good guy and has done exactly what they’ve asked, but it’s weird, awkward and abundantly clear what the deal is at this point in time.

Well said. I feel sorry for the guy. The time to make these decisions was over the winter.

  2. He’s pitched well, last night errors in the field hurt him a lot but he still got hit hard. Niese has been awful as of late and yet we’re already prepared to get rid of Gee. Makes no sense. Matz should replace Niese because it seems to me that we’re just keeping Niese in the rotatio because he’s a southpaw.

  3. You know what else hurts him? when he runs his fat mouth about gun control and being “tricked” into supporting it. Sit on the bench and take it like a man.
