Juan Lagares collided with Michael Cuddyer in the outfield on May 5 and injured his rib and armpit.
Since sustaining the injury, Lagares is 11-for-his-last-72 with only one extra-base hit.
On Saturday afternoon, Terry Collins acknowledged Lagares is still dealing with that injury and it is a likely contributor to his struggles at the plate.
In addition, Collins once again said Lagares elbow is problematic – he feels that’s a greater concern than his rib and armpit injury.
However, neither injuries will worsen if he plays, and Collins didn’t suggest a stint on the disabled list was an option for Lagares at this time.
Lagares is hitting .253/.292/.299 with three doubles, a triple and a home run and 13 RBI in 185 plate appearances over 45 games this season.
