With no timetable for David Wright to return and a dearth of options available at third base, Ruben Tejada might get an extended look at the position, Terry Collins explained to reporters before the game on Friday.
“Ruben Tejada is a very good baseball player,” Collins explained. “It’s up to him.”
Tejada is probably the best among Eric Campbell and Daniel Muno to play everyday, but that doesn’t mean he should be playing everyday, and he really isn’t a third baseman.
He played there a little bit during spring training and has been given an opportunity to play there lately. But, as Collins said this afternoon, Tejada is here because he is the utility infielder, and he’s being asked to play that role right now.
It still maybe more logical to put Tejada at second and shift Daniel Murphy back to third base. Murphy is a better third baseman than he is second baseman and, again, Tejada isn’t a third baseman.
One response to “Ruben Tejada could see extended time at third”
Ahh, the logic of Terry Colllins!
