Here’s what I’m looking for from the Mets today:
Some #ThorsDay support.
Noah Syndergaard is making his fourth career start (second at home) this afternoon. The numbers may not blow you away in three games thus far, but I’ve been thoroughly impressed with what I’ve seen from Thor. His fastball has been electric, his breaking ball has been devastating at times and he’s really displayed poise–in just three major league starts and he’s only 22-years-old.
What hasn’t been the case for Noah, so far at least, has been getting run support from his offense. In his only career start at Citi Field–his one career win–the Mets scored five runs behind the rookie. However, in the other two starts, against the Cubs and Pirates, the Mets scored a combined one run during his 13.1 innings on the mound.
The Mets have been a different team at home, scoring 11 runs in the last two games as compared to four runs in their previous three road games. If Syndergaard pitches the way he has been so far, and gets a little support, I suspect Mets fans will have a happy Thors Day.
Wilmer Flores: Shortstop, New York Mets.
With everything that’s gone on this year, how good has Wilmer Flores been lately? He’s seemed to have–for now, at least–sured up his defense and the past two days he’s hit a game-winning 3-run home run, hit a game-tying sacrifice fly and gotten his first career walk-off hit. Of late, he’s impressed me more and more each day. If that keeps up, maybe that’s one less problem this team has to deal with.
