Vic Black has struggled with various degrees of arm soreness and weakness resulting from a herniated disc for nearly three months, but he appears close to returning from the disabled list and making his season debut.

Dan Warthen said this morning at Citi Field Black is believed to be ready to return from the disabled list – its just a matter of when the front office chooses to activate him.

Black threw a scoreless inning on Tuesday for the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium, his second outing in as many days. That is typically a prerequisite for activation.

Black told Lynn Worthy of the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin he believes he is ready to join the Mets right now.

“I can get outs right now,” Black explained. “I don’t care where you put me, I can get outs. I think that’s the biggest key outside of the back-to-back. Terry (Collins) and the rest of the staff want to know that we’re ready to compete. They don’t want us up there to get ready. That’s the point of the rehab assignment.”

Black has been on the disabled list since Opening Day.
