On Saturday, assistant GM John Ricco told reporters in Pittsburgh David Wright has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, which is a contributing factor to the lower back pain he is currently experiencing and preventing him from returning to the disabled list.
On Monday at Citi Field, Sandy Alderson said doctors believe Wright’s stenosis is a manageable condition, and could return to the Mets sooner rather than later.
Alderson did not offer a timetable for Wright to return, but he will head to Los Angeles to visit with renowned back and neck specialist Dr. Robert Watkins and therapists there about his diagnosis.
Watkins performed disc surgery on Bobby Parnell at the end of the 2013 season.
Wright has not played since going on the disabled list with a strained hamstring on April 14.
He remains out indefinitely, although he could resume baseball activities after undergoing treatment and therapy in a week.
