Jacob deGrom allowed only one hit while striking out 11 batters in eight innings on Thursday. He retired the final 23 batters he faced after allowing a single to Matt Carpenter in the first inning.

Here are some notes on deGrom’s phenomenal performance on Thursday:

  • DeGrom tied a career-high with eight innings of work on Thursday, and is the fourth pitcher in franchise history to allow no runs with at least ten strikeouts and no walks in a game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau (Seaver on July 9, 1969, Dickey on June 13, 2012, and Harvey May 7, 2013).
  • The last Mets pitcher to retire the final 23 batters to face him was Anthony Young on July 7, 1993, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
  • DeGrom became the fourth pitcher in Mets history to allow one baserunner in at least eight innings (Niese on June 10, 2010, Seaver on July 9, 1969 and Harvey on May 7, 2013).
  • DeGrom’s 11 strikeouts were the most by a Met since DeGrom fanned a career-high 13 against the Marlins on September 15, 2014.
  • DeGrom did not have a three-ball count in his eight innings on Thursday.
  • His game score of 91 is the second highest mark in baseball this season, behind only Corey Kluber’s 98 game score earlier this season.
