Dillon Gee, Vic Black make rehab appearances on Thursday

Dillon Gee 1 slice

The Single-A St. Lucie Mets traveled to Dunedin, Florida to take on the Blue Jays at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Thursday.

Dillon Gee started for St. Lucie, and went 6 1/3 innings while allowing only three hits and striking out five – he has now allowed a run in 10 1/3 innings in two rehab starts with St. Lucie.

Vic Black relieved Gee with one out in the seventh inning and struggled, allowing two doubles and a run in 2/3 of an inning.

On Sunday, Terry Collins said the goal to get Gee to 100 pitches in his second rehab start and then determine whether or not he would be activated from the disabled list.

It would appear he is close to being ready. His day in the rotation would be on Tuesday when the Mets are at Citi Field against the Phillies. The Mets could conceivably use Gee as the sixth starter, which would give Matt Harvey five full days of rest between his start this Saturday and his next start, which would be Friday May 29 against the Marlins. That would prolong the decision on who gets taken out of the rotation through the next turn.

As for Black, Terry Collins said both he and Bobby Parnell could head to Binghamton after today, but Black got roughed up again with inconsistent velocity (sat mostly in the low 90s but hit 95 mph) according to people in Dunedin, and Parnell didn’t pitch tonight. So, that decision could still be up in the air.

  1. Harvey didn’t pitch well after 5 days rest. He said he didn’t like it. As much as I’d like to keep Noah S up I think he should be sent down so we can showcase Gee for a possible trade. I don’t know if anyone will take him but I don’t think he’ll do us any good coming out of the bullpen.
