Updates on Dillon Gee, Bobby Parnell, and Vic Black

Baron9:35 AM: The Mets announced the next steps for their injured pitching rehabbing at the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie.

Dillon Gee will start for Single-A St. Lucie when the team is in Dunedin on Thursday at 6:30 PM.

On Sunday, Terry Collins said Gee would get one more rehab start in an effort to elevate his pitch count back to 100 pitches.

Neither Collins or Sandy Alderson would say how Gee might or might not slot back into the rotation, although Collins said on Sunday discussions were ongoing. Gee’s next day to pitch would be Tuesday, May 26.

The St. Lucie Mets are off on Memorial Day, but are home against Lakeland on May 26. The Mets could shift Gee’s rehab to Binghamton, or slot him into the big league rotation as a sixth starter against the Phillies at Citi Field a week from today as well.

Either option would prolong having to make a decision about the rotation. Terry Collins said again on Sunday they will not go to a six-man rotation once Gee is activated.

Meanwhile, Bobby Parnell and Vic Black hope to make strides in their rehabs today in Port St. Lucie. They will pitch in an extended spring training game today.

Regarding Parnell, Alderson has said one of the issues holding him in Port St. Lucie is his command and velocity – he has been in the low 90s with his fastball and has not had very much command to date.

Black was hopeful to move his rehab assignment onto Las Vegas this past weekend, but a rocky rehab outing on Saturday delayed his departure.

There remains no timetable for either Parnell or Black to return.

Update, 2:25 PM: Both Parnell and Black pitched in their extended spring training games today.

Parnell pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed three runs – two earned – on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Black inherited Parnell’s jam with the bases loaded and nobody out, and proceeded to strike out the first two batters and induce a ground ball to end the inning.

Sandy Alderson told reporters on Tuesday there is no timetable for either to return, as both continue to struggle with command and velocity during their rehab outings.
