Despite the Mets on-going struggle to score runs this season, Sandy Alderson is remaining patient and is not looking for upgrades on the external markets just yet.
Alderson told reporters at Citi Field on Tuesday he wants to see how the club performs with both David Wright and Travis d’Arnaud in the lineup before he decides whether or not to find upgrades from outside the organization.
In fairness, there are no meaningful trades to be made this early in the season. Teams often use Memorial Day as a date to determine where things stand with their clubs, and the markets begin to percolate sometime in June.
By then, the Mets lineup should be restored (barring injuries and setbacks), and the Mets can better evaluate where they stand and what might be available to them as upgrades as the All-Star Game and trade deadline get closer.
Having said that, if Wright and d’Arnaud are still at least 7-10 days away, they need to figure out how to hit enough between now and then and keep their heads above water until that evaluation can begin.
Since the end of the 11-game winning streak, the Mets are 10-13. They’ve hit .232/.282/.362 with 49 walks and 191 strikeouts in that span.
