Last week, Travis d’Arnaud was cleared to perform most baseball activities, with the exception of swinging a bat. He was then deployed to the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida to begin working his way back from his broken finger/hand.
On Monday, d’Arnaud made some more progress, as Sandy Alderson told Marc Carig of Newsday at the Manhattan Veterans Hospital d’Arnaud underwent an x-ray and has been cleared to begin swinging a bat.
D’Arnaud proceeded to take dry swings today – he did not hit, according to Carig.
Presumably, that means d’Arnaud’ is less than a week from beginning a rehab assignment. D’Arnaud said before he departed for Florida he had already begun running and was maintaining his leg strength. The key now is building his upper body and arm strength back, and getting the necessary at-bats to get himself back to the Mets.
Alderson did not offer a timetable for d’Arnaud to return.
d’Arnaud has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 20.
