The Mets got walloped by the Brewers on Friday night, getting shutout by the score of 7-0 at Citi Field. Here are my takeaways from Friday’s loss…
The game was over early.
There are really no words to describe Colon’s outing tonight. He got shelled. His fastball was up and in the middle of the plate, and the Brewers simply did not miss,. He gave up three extra-base hits in a row, including a long home run to Ryan Braun, and in a blink of an eye, it was 5-0. Mixed in was another error by Wilmer Flores and a poor miss play by Curtis Granderson on a flyball to deep right field. And, with the way the Mets offense is going, that was way more than enough for Milwaukee tonight.
The Mets went down irrelevantly at the plate.
I know personally how hard each and every one of these players work on a daily basis. I know how much they care, I know they want to do better than this. But, this is an offense that looks disconnected, and looks like it’s just going through the motions.
They didn’t get their first hit until the fifth inning, and it was a measly single by Wilmer Flores. They didn’t get their next hit until the seventh inning when their hottest hitter, Daniel Murphy, doubled. That was pretty much that outside of Michael Cuddyer’s single with two outs in the ninth, and pretty much sums things up for this fragmented roster.
It’s sad, but I’ve started to expect absolutely nothing out of the offense. The approaches are so poor, the at-bats are so brief, and they’re really not challenging anyone they face right now. Again, sad.
Speaking of Wilmer Flores…
The Mets did not lose this game because of Flores’ error in the third inning. However, it once again set the tone for this team. It opened the third inning, and it was like someone hit them over the head or something, because they started gushing blood and quick.
The error was due to a bad throw which pulled Lucas Duda off the bag, who didn’t have good footwork at first base. But if Flores had thrown the ball to the base, this isn’t a problem.
It’s just continuing to spiral for Flores. One error seems to lead to the next, and very little is routine for him. But, Sandy Alderson said they’re sticking with him, and they called up Eric Campbell to replace Dilson Herrera tonight which further supports his statement.
The six runs (five earned) allowed by Colon were a season-high. He raised his ERA from 3.30 to 3.86 for the year.
The Mets bullpen allowed a run in four innings tonight.
The Mets were shutout for the third time this season.
Flores has made six errors in his last 14 games.
The Brewers have won 24 of their last 37 games against the Mets, and 13 of their last 16 at Citi Field.
The Mets have scored three runs or less in 13 of their last 17 games.

Duda has to make the stretch. Was not an error-worthy throw by any means.

So where does this club go from here? These frail and anemic offensive outings are pathetic. I mean, gosh, 1 run here, 2 runs there, a shutout here, 3 runs there…this is laughable. I check my tablet when the Mets come up to bat and before I know it their half of the inning is over. No fight, no tenacity, no grit. They take the 1-2-3s as they come and quite frankly it makes me sick. WilmEEEr FlorEEEs doing what hE doEs bEst (that should be 9 Es). This is tough man.

They really need a HERO right about now to come SAVE the SEASON! Bad Luck, Dilson, etc Under a jinx? What a slump-Somebody shave their beard, grow a beard, eat chicken, ( Wade Boggs),sacrifice a chicken, don’t be chicken, be brave, ya gotta believe, I’ll be there tomorrow night… JUST WIN!
