Dilson Herrera breaks his finger, to the disabled list

BaronThe Mets received more bad news on Friday night, this time it centers around one of their best position player prospects.

Dilson Herrera took a groundball off his finger during batting practice on Friday afternoon, and it tore off his fingernail.

But he went for an x-ray on his finger, and it was revealed he has a broken tip of his finger.

Herrera will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The team has not yet announced a corresponding roster move.

The Mets just can’t catch a break, no pun intended.

They could just call up Daniel Muno or Eric Campbell to be a utility infielder, and just have Ruben Tejada start everyday. However, that risks overexposing him on an everyday basis, which limits his value to the team which is best served as a backup.

Alternatively, the Mets could call up Matt Reynolds and have him start everyday at second base. They could call him up to play shortstop, and they could shift Wilmer Flores to second base.

Reynolds is not on the 40-man roster, but they could accommodate him by transferring Jerry Blevins to the 60-day disabled list.

Update, 9:12 pm: The Mets will recall Campbell from Triple-A Las Vegas.
