Earlier this week, the agent for Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki, Paul Cohen, told Joel Sherman of the New York Post the two would be meeting in Los Angeles on Thursday to discuss formally asking the Rockies for a trade.

However, on Thursday afternoon, Tulowitzki told MLB.com’s Thomas Harding he will not ask for a trade.

According to Harding, Tulowitzki did not tell his agent to speak with Sherman about whether or not he’s unhappy in Denver, but understands his agent’s intention to protect the best interest of his career.

However, Tulowitzki said if he had an issue with the Rockies, he would take it up with ownership himself, rather than leak his intentions to the media first.

Having said that, two people close to Tulowitzki told Sherman earlier this week the star shortstop remains frustrated with the losing and wants out of Colorado.

Tulowitzki, 30, has hit .303/.310/.477 with 13 doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI in 30 games with the Rockies this season.

He’s in the fifth year of a ten-year, $157.75 million contract he signed with Colorado after the 2010 season. He is owed $20 million a year from 2015-2019, then $14 million in 2020. He has a $15 million club option for 2021 with a $4 million buyout.

If Tulowitzki is traded during any point of the contract, he will receive a $2 million bonus, and a full no-trade clause kicks in if he is traded.

  1. Do you think if the Mets had WON all 4 at Wrigley , that TULO would have asked for a trade? We ‘ll never know….

  2. No, I’m sure he isn’t, not at this stage of his career.
LGM- God, this has been such a tease! Almost would have been better if we were just the same old Mets, because the “riding high in April, shot down in May” routine hurts so much more than reliable mediocrity.
