Buddy Carlyle unavailable on Tuesday night

Buddy Carlyle 1 slice

BaronBuddy Carlyle was forced to exit Monday night’s game with a strained lower back he believes has been aggravated by a sore hamstring.

Carlyle apparently needed help walking down the stairs to the clubhouse last night, according to the team’s reporters in Chicago.

As such, Carlyle will not be available for the Mets tonight – he will be re-evaluated tomorrow, and could possibly go on the disabled list if the problem lingers.

If Carlyle needs to go on the disabled list, the logical replacement would be Zack Thornton. But, he is not on the 40-man roster, and the Mets have limited flexibility there at the moment. They could turn to Jack Leathersich as an alternative, as he is on the 40-man roster and has shown a history of being effective against right-handed hitters in the minors.

Carlyle is 1-0 with a 5.63 ERA in 11 appearances this season. He has been unscored upon in nine of his 11 appearances, and has allowed three of his inherited runners to score.
