Despite getting hammered during the resumption of his rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Monday, Bobby Parnell is expected to take a major step towards returning to the Mets this week.
Terry Collins told reporters in Chicago Parnell will make another rehab outing with Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday, then he will depart for Las Vegas to continue his rehab assignment with the 51s.
Presumably, Parnell will need to have one or more successful outings, and pitch back-to-back before the front office considers activating him. He’s still building his velocity, although he showed signs last night it’s beginning to creep up.
But, he’s apparently lacking any sort of command right now, so it’s clear he has a lot of work to do before joining the Mets again.
Parnell allowed two hits, a walk and three runs in his fourth rehab outing with Single-A St. Lucie last night. It was his first appearance since April 21.
Parnell is on the 15-day disabled list as he continues his recovery from April, 2014 Tommy John Surgery.
