Wednesday’s pitching matchup: Jacob deGrom vs. Ubaldo Jimenez

degrom jimenez

BaronJacob deGrom (2-3, 3.34 ERA) will start for the Mets. DeGrom is coming off a distracted start last Thursday against Washington when he allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings for his second straight losing decision. He was brilliant through four innings, but was victimized by his defense and couldn’t put out the fire. The Mets have lost three of deGrom’s five starts so far this year, although they’ve scored an average of 2.2 runs per game for him in 2015. DeGrom is starting on five full days of rest for the third time already this season – he has a 2.92 ERA in 11 starts in his career when pitching on the sixth day. DeGrom is making his first career start against Baltimore tonight.

Key matchups vs. deGrom:

Travis Snider: 0-for-3

Note: deGrom has not faced anyone else currently on the Orioles roster.

Ubaldo Jimenez (2-1, 1.59 ERA) will start for the Orioles. After a rocky 2014 season, Jimenez has resembled the form he had in 2013 early in 2015, allowing just four earned runs with 22 strikeouts in his first 22 1/3 innings this season. He earned his second win of the year in his last start against the White Sox when he allowed no earned runs on only three hits with six strikeouts in seven innings. Jimenez is making his seventh career start against the Mets tonight – he is 2-3 with a 3.40 ERA in 39 2/3 innings against them in his career.

Key matchups vs. Jimenez:

Curtis Granderson: 2-for-11, 3B, 4 BB
Michael Cuddyer: 0-for-8
Daniel Murphy: 1-for-6, 2 RBI
