Bobby Parnell has had a rocky road during the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John Surgery. He has dealt with a strained hamstring, and most recently was sidelined with forearm soreness which has stalled his return to the Mets.
Parnell said last week in Miami he was feeling better. But before the Mets insert him into a rehab game, Terry Collins said on Tuesday Dan Warthen would like to see Parnell pitch to ensure he is mechanically sound.
As such, Parnell is heading to New York and will pitch in front of Warthen and the rest of the staff before proceeding.
Parnell has struggled in three rehab appearances with the St. Lucie Mets in 2015, allowing three runs on six hits with three walks in only 2 2/3 innings. He has struggled to improve upon his velocity during these outings, although he was throwing between 91-93 mph in his latest outing on April 21, according to team officials.
During Spring Training, Parnell was hopeful he could return by mid-April, although he was expected to return sometime in May.
