Notes: Matt Harvey makes more history for the Mets

BaronOn Friday, Matt Harvey pitched seven shutout innings to record his fifth win against zero losses for the season. He is now 5-0 with a 2.41 ERA in his first five starts since returning from Tommy John Surgery.

Here are some historical notes on Harvey’s win:

  • He is the fifth player in Mets history to win his first five starts of a season, joining Pedro Martinez (2006; five straight wins to start season), Armando Reynoso (1998; five), Frank Viola (1990; seven) and Dwight Gooden (1988; six).
  • Harvey is the third pitcher in fclub history to get off to a 5-0 start in multiple seasons (also 2013), joining Dwight Gooden (1986 and 1989) and Armando Reynoso (1997 and 1998).
  • Harvey is now 10-0 with a 2.01 ERA in 16 career starts in April and May.
  • On Friday, Harvey became the second pitcher in Mets history to allow one run or fewer in six straight starts against one opponent.
