Earlier this week, Terry Collins said it was possible the club could skip one starting pitcher with the two off-days this week.
However, on Saturday Collins said the plan was to stick with the current five man rotation and not skip anyone despite having extended time off in between starts.
That means, Dillon Gee will start the series finale against the Nationals on Sunday with five days rest, Bartolo Colon will start on Tuesday with five days rest, Jacob deGrom on Wednesday with five days rest, then Matt Harvey and Jon Niese with six days rest next Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia.
If they decided to skip a starter, that pitcher would have had to wait well over a week to get back into a game. That’s very disruptive to the routine of a starting pitcher, so it’s understandable why the Mets would simply stay the course and minimize any issues.
