The Mets continue a four-game series with the Nationals tonight at Citi Field. Matt Harvey is on the mound for the Metropolitans as they look to snap their three-game losing streak.
Here are some notes on the Mets ace…
- Matt Harvey looks to go 5-0 in five starts for the first time in his career. Harvey started 2013 5-0, but had four no decisions as well.
- Matt Harvey and Dwight Gooden are the only two starters in the last 100 years to allow one run or fewer in 20 of their first 40 career games.
- Since 2012, Harvey’s 0.82 ERA against the Nationals os the best mark among pitchers with at least 25 IP against them.
- In his five career starts vs. Washington, Harvey has never allowed more than one run, more than five hits and collected less than seven strikeouts.
- Harvey is the only pitcher in the last century to record at least six strikeouts and walk none in 11 of his first 40 career games. No other pitcher has had more than eight such outings in the first 40 career games.
- Harvey has never lost in the months of April or May, going 8-0 with a 2.15 ERA in his career in the first two months.
- According to Elias Sports Bureau, Harvey is only the second non-rookie pitcher in the last 15 years to win each of his first three outings after not pitching in the major leagues the previous year.
