The Mets will look to take the rubber game of their three-game series with the Marlins tonight in Miami.
Bartolo Colon will start for the Mets. He’s 4-0 with a 2.77 ERA in his first four starts. Here are some historical notes on Colon as he looks to improve to 5-0 for the year:
- Colon has won his first four starts for the first time in his career, and has won each of his last five starts dating back to last September 28.
- If he wins tonight, Colon will be the first pitcher to start 5-0 since Pedro Martinez did so in 2006.
- In his last start against the Braves, Colon improved to 4-0, becoming the fourth pitcher in the last 80 years aged 40 and older to win his first four starts of the year. The others: Phil Niekro, Nolan Ryan, and Roger Clemens (courtesy of Elias).
- Colon has thrown 91 pitches or fewer in each of his last six starts dating back to last September 23, 2014.
- Colon is the only starter to win five games in a row while tossing no more than 91 pitches in any of his outings.
- Colon’s 208 wins are second among active pitchers.
