The Mets open a three-game series with the Marlins tonight at 7:10 PM at Marlins Park.

Rich MacLeodHere’s what I am looking for from the Mets tonight…

Get back on the horse.

The Mets lost two of three to the Yankees over the weekend, but now they need to pick themselves up, brush themselves off and start a new streak all over again. They can’t continue their poor play from Sunday night as they were fundamentally flawed in the field and on the basepaths. I’m looking (and hoping) to see a crisper game from this team tonight, as they look to get back on track in Miami.

Can Daniel Murphy go mistake free?

Daniel Murphy is off to a woeful start this season. While he isn’t hitting much, the real concern has been in the field. Murph has never been a defensive wizard and has always suffered from the occasional mental lapse, but lately, they’ve been coming at an unacceptable rate. Murphy has made a mistake in the field in four consecutive games–throwing home and turning a double play on Thursday, booting a double play ball on Friday, not covering first on Saturday and booting a double play ball on Sunday. In three of the four games, it has cost the Mets runs. Tonight Murph gets another chance to redeem himself, but if the mental mistakes continue, something’s going to have to change…

If Jarred Cosart is up, take flight.

Marlins starter Jarred Cosart is a groundball pitcher, so if he’s on, it may be tough for the Mets to put runs on the board tonight. The Mets saw Cosart earlier this season at Citi Field, where he dominated by getting groundballs early. When Cosart made a mistake in the 5th, however, the batter Wilmer Flores took advantage, blasting a game-tying 3-run home run. If Cosart misses up with any of his sinkers tonight, the Mets will have to take advantage like they did last time.
