Rafael Montero unlikely to remain in the rotation, will not replace Dillon Gee

Rafael Montero and Dillon Gee

BaronRafael Montero will start for the Mets against the Marlins on Tuesday night, but even if he pitches well, he is unlikely to remain in the starting rotation.

On Monday afternoon, Terry Collins said there were no plans to install Montero into the regular five-man rotation after his start tomorrow, and could instead return to Triple-A Las Vegas.

In regards to Dillon Gee’s status in the rotation, Collins said they are not intending to replace Gee in the rotation with Montero or anybody else right now.

In fact, Collins is hoping Gee pitches well so the questions about his status in the rotation end,

“I hope he pitches good. I hope he pitches a suckin’ no hitter…Goddamn I hope it works,” Collins said, according to Mike Vorkunov of the Star Ledger.

Gee has struggled in the early part of the season, although he pitched well in his last start against the Braves on Thursday. He is 0-1 with a 5.60 ERA in three starts in 2015.

Collins did not say who they might demote to make room for Montero, but it’s plausible they go back to a short bench, at least until David Wright returns from the disabled list.

  1. Need more data-=tonight’s Gee game plus tomorrow night’s Montero start.
If both pitchers are worthy, send down MUNO; then to make room for Wright, send down Goedel, ( keep Robels).
