What to look for: Mets vs. Yankees, 8:05 PM

Yankee Stadium 1 slice

The Mets will look to take the rubber game of their three-game series with the Yankees tonight at 8:05 PM at Yankee Stadium.

BaronHere’s what I am looking for from the Mets tonight…

Don’t lose the momentum.

A series win in the Bronx would be huge for the Mets before the head south to take on a suddenly hot Miami Marlins club at Marlins Park tomorrow. They had such an uplifting performance from Matt Harvey after their historic winning streak came to a close on Friday, and they have Jon Niese going for them tonight who is really pitching well early in the year. That, along with their familiarity would make for a fun overnight flight to Miami, should they win tonight’s ballgame.

Daniel Murphy needs a nice game.

As I wrote early, its been a really tough ride for Murphy early on in 2015. A crisp game in the field plus some pokes with the bat is really something he could use tonight. He has good numbers in his career against Nathan Eovaldi, so it’s as good a night as any for him to get his season on track.

Attack the strikes.

Eovaldi is a strike thrower, but often times the quality of those strikes aren’t particularly good from a pitching perspective. He’s often wild in the middle of the zone as a result. The Mets have been so good early on this year at attacking strikes, especially the second and third time through the batting order. It would be nice if the Mets could do it more consistently earlier in the game tonight, and give Niese some breathing room in the earlier part of his outing.
