Jon Niese will start for the Mets as he attempts to win his third game of the year and the rubber game of their three-game series against the Yankees on Sunday.
Here are some notes on Niese ahead of his start tonight:
- He’s allowed no more than two earned runs in each of his last seven starts, a career-high.
- In his last seven starts, Niese is 3-1 with a 1.62 ERA with only 10 walks allowed and 34 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings.
- Niese has allowed three earned rums or less in 33 of his last 36 starts dating back to September 13, 2013.
- Niese is going for his fourth consecutive win in as many decisions – it would be the first time that has occurred since he won five games in six starts from September 14, 2012 – April 12, 2013.
- Niese is 5-5 with a 4.78 ERA in 16 interleague starts, and the Mets are 9-7 in those starts.
