The Rangers announced on Friday afternoon they’ve designated RHP Logan Verrett for assignment.

Verrett, 24, was acquired from the Orioles on a waiver claim before the regular season started. He was Baltimore’s Rule 5 selection this past December.

Due to his Rule 5 status, Verrett must remain on a big league roster for the entire regular season before becoming his current team’s property. Since Texas designated him for assignment, he must be offered back to the Mets for $25,000 (half of what Baltimore paid for him) if he clears waivers.

Verrett returning to the Mets now seems likely, given the time of year, his performance in the big leagues, and Rule 5 status.

He went 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in four relief appearances for Texas. He went 11-5 with a 4.33 ERA in 28 starts for Triple-A Las Vegas in 2014.

If the Mets bought Verrett’s rights back from Texas, he would be sent back to the minor leagues.
