Vic Black never suffered from a shoulder problem…

Vic Black is at Citi Field on Wednesday, two days after an MRI showed he had a herniated disc in his neck in an MRI performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Michael BaronBlack spoke with reporters about his continuing neck and shoulder ailments which is keeping him sidelined for the foreseeable future, and said he is hopeful a week off from baseball activity will allow the nerve condition to settle down.

Black said the herniated disc in his neck is minor and does not require surgery. It’s a similar condition to what he had towards the end of last year, but it’s improved since then. However, the herniation is pressing on a nerve which is causing muscle weakness and a tingling sensation in his arm.

Black did say the issue was never with his shoulder – he’s been suffering only from discomfort and resulting symptoms from the herniated disc.

Despite feeling encouraged there remains no timetable for his return.

Black has been on the disabled list since Opening Day. He made three rehab appearances between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton, and was shutdown after his outing last Saturday after showing reduced velocity and increased discomfort.
