Update, 10:34 PM: Terry Collins said after the game Matt Harvey sprained his ankle shagging flyballs during Spring Training. Harvey only first mentioned it to the team on Monday.

Update, 8:50 PM: Matt Harvey has a mild left ankle sprain, but is still on target to make his next start on Saturday against the Yankees.

Original Post, 4:27 PM: Matt Harvey is human after all.

Harvey has been dealing with a problem on his foot, and left Citi Field on Wednesday for a consultation with team doctors, Terry Collins said to reporters Wednesday afternoon.

Baron“It’s not a problem but we wanted to get it checked,” Collins said.

Harvey is expected to make his next start on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. He was very sick during his last start against the Marlins on Sunday, during which he allowed four earned runs in six innings.

It’s a smart play to let the doctor see whatever is going on with Harvey’s foot, and let them make a determination for treatment and protection so he isn’t in any discomfort while pitching.

Not to overflow something which is clearly minor, but with Harvey or any pitcher, even the smallest injury could lead to a mechanical alteration, which could cause risks the team and the player simply do not need to take at this point.

Harvey is 3-0 with a 3.50 ERA in 18 innings over three starts in 2015.

  2. He couldn’t have been THAT sick — he partied after the game. Ugh.
