On Sunday, Travis d’Arnaud broke a bone in his hand, and the Mets said on Monday he’s expected to be in a splint for three weeks.
If the fracture is healed, d’Arnaud may return to baseball activities.
On Sunday, d’Arnaud said he was encouraged by the news on his hand, and told Kristie Ackert of the Daily News if all goes well, he could return to the team in 4-5 weeks.
Presumably, d’Arnaud would go on some kind of rehab assignment soon after having the cast removed. From what I could see, his hand is completely immobilized, so he will have to build some strength back first before being at full strength.
That explains the extended (yet expected) timetable for his return.
